Jim King Background

Jim has nearly 30 years of experience in environmental and quality management systems throughout his career starting with for Florida Power and Light Company, IT Corporation and eventually with SAI Global. While with FP&L, he represented the electric utility industry in Washington, D.C. during the legislative development and rule makings for the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). His assignments included economic impact analysis of legislation and rulemakings and their impact on the electric utility industry. As a Senior Environmental Analyst, he was instrumental in developing environmental programs, including PCB reduction management and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan (SPCC) development and implementation for the power plants throughout the FP&L system.

Jim has refined his management and leadership techniques while being a full time consultant for the last 20 years. He has assumed leadership roles in ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 development programs, training and auditing both domestically and internationally.

Jim's experience not only includes corporate management experience, but also leadership positions in start-up operations with ITC in environmental biotechnology and his own consulting business.

Jim's major focus since joining SAI Global has been in training and consulting for our customers. Throughout his career, he has acquired a unique combination of expertise in development and implementation of integrated management systems for Quality, Environment, and Safety. By utilizing a practical approach to business management systems development, he has successfully helped companies realize financial rewards for properly developing and implementing effective management systems.

Jim also has been very successful at fostering internal acceptance to needed changes to core business processes from top management throughout the organization. His emphasis is that business processes should serve the organization and help customers achieve success; this philosophy has made him a leader in identifying opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiencies within each organization he has helped.

Jim's areas of expertise include business management system development, change management, environmental compliance, environmental and quality cost accounting, communication at all levels of the organization, training and auditing for a wide variety industries and many of the Fortune Top 50 corporations.

Clients

Jim has assisted both small and large organizations with the development and implementation of their business management systems. Recent customers include AER Manufacturing, 3M Corp., TECO Coal Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Visteon.

Credentials

Jim is an IRCA Certified Quality Systems Lead Auditor, an IRCA Certified Environmental Management Systems Lead Auditor, and is an OHSAS 18001 H&S Qualified Lead Auditor. Jim received a BS (Cum Laude) with a duel major in Finance and Economics from the New York Institute of Technology, in Old Westbury, New York.

Jim is co-author of The PCB Management Handbook (with JP Woodyard), 1985 and The Environmental Dictionary, 3rd edition (4th edition scheduled for publication in late 2004), both published by John Wiley and Sons.
